    • Probate describes him wrongly as a batchelor rather than widower. Also states that "In the month of January 1833 Joshua Mewburn who lived at Matson's Cottages, Kingsland Road in the County of Middlesex left England for New Zealand."
      In Dec 1857 his brother Henry John belived that he might be alive and living in ""Waipar near Waicataio about 15 miles from Auckland [actually 150 miles]". Last seen 3 years earlier. Known then as Moko or Jemmy Moko; had his face tattooed and was living with Maoris.
      In the Register of Merchant Seamen, 1835-1857 he is listed as Josh Mewburn - Shadwell with no. of Register Ticket 244380.
