  • Notes
    • Of Stanground, according to VCH tree - Stanground, nr Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
Marriage record suggests he should have been born 1822 (but it aslo suggests Dorothy was younger than she was claiming).
In Dorothea Mewburn-Watson's account she comments "Stanground was probably a convenient resting place in those days on the long coach journey from Acomb to the south. Thus in his college days we find the Rev. James Mewburn spending a couple of nights at Stanground with his elder brother Simon when they were on their way to Cambridge." the Standground family also visited Cambridge.
In the UK Poll Books and Electoral Registers, 1538-1893 (Ancestry.co.uk) Thomas is listed as a voter for Chesterton in the parish of Yelling, Toseland Hundred.
Death date is actually burial, and Rev. James Mewburns' diary 05 Jun 1791(quoted by Dorothea Mewburn-Watson) apparently also says "Mr Thomas Mewburn had a stroke of the palsy, from this he probably never fully recovered."
Will indicates that he was a particularly prosperous member of the family.
There are monumental inscriptions in the chancel of St John Baptist at Stanground that say:
      "--- Mewburn, d. 1789, and -- his daughter, d. 1788; Thomas William Mewburn, d. 1795, and Mary Ann his daughter, d 1794".
The first two with names missing are believed to be John and Ann children of Thomas (1717).
