  • Notes
    • In the first half of the 18th century there are baptisms for possibly three Johns as the fathers. The first two overlap and have a Margaret and an Ann as wives so they are clearly separate. Technically the third brood could be from a second marriage by one of the first two. In the case of the 'third' John there is an marriage in 1741 that ties in with the births. Records for the marriages in the first two cases have not been found.

Other evidence towards unravelling this consists of:
There is a burial for an Ann in 1761 and she could be the wife of the second John. If so then the timing is such that the second marriage theory could apply only to the first John.
There is a burial for a Margaret Mowburn, wife of John, in 1749 which may well be for the wife of the first John. However that is too late to allow the second marriage theory to apply to him so 3 Johns seems most likely.

There are burials for Johns at Sunderland in 1750, 1754 and 1762 which could account for them all(none of these three burials give ages and subsequent burials all give ages for Johns who are too young).
